The name Hanns Heinen is often associated with old model railways in Germany. This is due to the fact that Hanns Heinen’s son, the business owner Hanns-Theo Heinen, founded a model railway company that is well known in professional circles. He named it “Hanns Heinen GmbH” after his father.
This small-series producer of model railways and their accessories created very special models which are still popular and well sought after among collectors to this day. The firm operated between the early 1960s and the year 1990.
Hanns Heinen was a life-long model building enthusiast. He met a member of the Märklin family during his stay in the Bavarian town of Kreuztal-Eisenbach in the final months of the war. Numerous sketches by Erwin Bowien (1899-1972) show Hanns Heinen and his sons Hanns-Theo and Gunther building models or playing with model railways.
